I knew Azrylar had an immortal character, and the fact that he was suiciding his characters right before this happened, made me about 95% sure it was him. The only other option I thought of at the time was a bug with a disease, not giving me messages. You should feel good, I had confidence that it wasn't a bug! :P
How else can he just die out of the blue except something an ainu did :p This is the best frustrated newbie/cheating/getting nuked stuff I've seen in a while, better than even Dakar's newbie sprees or Exide's gold transfers.
