Client: http://kbtin.sourceforge.net/ (for Un*x systems) Maps: http://urukpr0n.angband.pl/ Plan: Castamir had not long sat upon the throne before he proved himself haughty and ungenerous. He was a cruel man, as he had first shown in the taking of Osgiliath. He caused Orendil son of Eldacar, who was captured, to be put to death; and the slaughter and destruction done in the city at his bidding far exceeded the needs of war. This was remembered in Minas Arnor and in Ithilien; and their love for Castamir was further lessened when it became clear he cared little for the land, and thought only of the fleets, and proposed to remove the king's seat to Pelargir. Nuke Reason: See news 58. Note 58 Draugluin (12/21/06 22:49) Travesty Dear Ardans, "And behold! in our need chance brings to light the Ring of Power. It is a gift, I say; a gift to the foes of Mordor. It is mad not to use it, to use the power of the Enemy against him. The fearless, the ruthless, these alone will achieve victory. What could not a warrior do in this hour, a great leader? What could not Aragorn do? Or if he refuses, why not Boromir?" --Boromir As many of you saw, or heard by now, Melkor on behalf of the Administration was forced to delete the Overlord known as Castamir today. Let me say that, personally, Castamir is someone I met when I first came here, and someone I spent countless - countless of my hours with, playing, coding, t2t-ing in general. To say that this is a sad day for our entire community is a drastic understatement - not only because of the person involved, but whoever assisted him and his grossly treacherous acts. All ainu agree to a set of rules, and know that they must abide by them. They range from not helping mortals, to protecting how things are done, etc. They also include the promise that all code not deemed publically available is the property of the Valinor community, the mud, as a whole. Castamir broke this trust by stealing a good portion of the T2T code, and attempting to use it as a bargaining chip to force Valinor to do things his way. He also wanted to rally others to his cause, toward whatever end. Clearly, Castamir lost sight of the community as a whole, no matter how strongly he felt about how town entrances or the whip or whatever else should work. Because of this, Castamir has violated the trust placed in him by all of us, in a way that ensures we couldn't ever trust him again...because clearly, if he were willing to do something so treacherous, then any other type of cheating you see somewhat regularly: multiplaying, gold passing, stat altering, who knows what...would be but a drop in the bucket. I mourn for Castamir, because he could find no better way to express himself, no more productive outlet for his talents, many of which he shared with me over the years. I mourn for The Two Towers because our community has been betrayed, in a way most foul, by some of our own. But we'll recover. Valinor is currently looking at different plans to change how development is structured on T2T, to attack the core issues of code trust, copyright, etc, to ensure no future Administration is forced to do things to your game based on the extortions of any outside influences. More info to come in the coming weeks. Thanks, Draugluin on behalf of the Powers
