Long had the Free Peoples of Middle-earth fought the tiranny of Morgoth Bauglir. Several great battles have gone down in the annals of the history of Arda. And during these times, the Sons of Feanor tried to fulfil the oath to their father to retrieve all Silmarils. It was during these times that Earendil, with the aid of Cirdan built Vingilot, the Foam-flower, fairest of the ships of song; golden were its oars and white its timbers, hewn in the birchwoods of Nimbrethil, and its sails were as the argent moon. Earendil stood now most often at the prow of Vingilot, and a Silmaril was bound upon his brow; and ever its light grew greater as they drew into the West.
