Wouldn't it be great if all the older asshole American players came back and took over their old guilds (I could do Amruin), and then declare meaningless wars that none of their guildmates want on whatever the strongest guild is today and then suddenly go inactive as their guild gets destroyed and humiliated? That would be awesome. Then we all could go back to playing x-box. Or if we don't have one, we could just snort some coke.

Who cares if half a dussin dubai chumps (or wherever they're from) those 10 people (Slorien etc) has to shit away their freetime on something else after newyear, they were like the only new players on t2t in 07, probably just discovered the internet over there.. great fucking contributions they've made along with those herkimer hillbilly geeks? Them And the remaining 50 assorted american assholes. Huge loss for the gaming community worldwide i'm sure, 5 minutes after it shuts down you'll be queuing for wellfare checks to pay for that xbox 360 you've been squeezing the crane over for the past 1.5 half year and dork the days away on fucking halo.

An informal show of gratitude coming from the players of the MUD is not the same as selling a ring/custom item to people who donate money.

People keep mentioning paying for the mud, however I believe the codebase the mud is originally based on explicitly forbids that (unless the license has changed in recent years), as it also forbids selling 'mud' items for real money.

Half the time like I'm blaming Draugluin in my posts and half the time I end up supporting him... I think usually when I sound like I'm blaming him, I actually mean to blame the attitude of the ER implmentation, which was actually only partially his responsibility. There were a lot of others, myself included, who screwed it up.

Yeah, it's important to remember that there are no gigantic chasms between the way the current admin do things and the way most people think things should be done. That's not always how it's been.

I would argue that Draugluin made a ton of RP concessions that contributed strongly to the downturn of the MUD. The lawlessness of the ER-FR relations was put in for RP's sake. Shopkeepers not accepting sFRs and ERs was put in for RP's sake. Four years of coders' time was spent on Far Harad for RP's sake. sFRs themselves were created for RP's sake. Battlepoints were instituted for RP's sake.

The problem is that none of the RPers really wanted any of these things. Most RPers didn't want ERs at all. These were concessions that made the game more challenging to power players under the guise that it would somehow 'even out' the advantages that some players get by being willing to kill for both sides. There was the idea in Valinor that a goal of ERs and sFRs was that they would make people choose a side in the war. This forced power players to resent RPers more and RPers to resent power players more.

Maybe we should start undoing a lot of these things done 'for RP's sake' and continue returning the game to playability, as this administration has proven it can do.

You're correct, Tortuga, but I wasn't going to name names.

What I don't get is why people think the current lineup of admins is somehow worse than previous ones. The old 'the current President is always the worst one in history' theory may now actually ring true in the US, but let's for a moment recall Rauko's favoritism, and the ridiculous ego of him and certain past female admins, and how awful Sire was as Sauron, and Solomon's passive-aggressive attempts to derail the MC, and Draugluin's open mockery of RP and how he royally fucked up the game...

...I could go on. Enforcement has -never- been entirely fair, nor will it ever be, nor can it be. Sure, Tulkas hands out some weird warnings, but in my experience the most absurd ones get overturned quickly if you approach another admin in a polite and reasonable manner. I think what's going on is that certain people who got carte blanche to act like douches in the past aren't getting it anymore, and they're taking it personally. They in turn convince all their buddies that the sky is falling. Dev22 wasn't done by this lineup, nor were ER implementation or battlepoints. A little circumspection might be healthy here.

I spoke to Champ last night, and he told me that he has always offered to host Towers for free. I don't think money is the issue.

If it's a money issue, I'll totally buy rights to admin the game for $75.

  • Author

I think it comes down to whether or not Aule still wants to admin the place. If he doesn't, I'm sure someone else would be willing to and they'd find a way to get the money. I'm pretty sure $75 a month isn't the issue here when we average somewhere around 55 or 60 users online. Talk alone of shutting down is bad enough for newer players.

any anyways are we seriously talking about a monthly fee

instead we could charge for RP events, for a 5 dollar donation you get a 'ticket' to an event (we would have to have events atleast once a quarter for this-3 months for people who dont understand finance) tickets are good for any event, but can only be used once, so if you bought a ticket, but missed teh event, you can use it for the next one. also you would have to buy tickets for each of your alts (if you wanted them at the event too)

so youd have 4 events a year, 5 dollars per alt per event

so to get the 900 dollars a year, we would need 60 people to attend atleast 3 events on 1 alt.

tev-you could get G-i-M on it, and just start selling shit through yalls web page, $10 for a 'I helped save the mud' ring

It was Gyro, I think (the Zazzle shirts, I mean). I think that Aule decided he didn't want to pay any more money to keep the mud up after he heard people complaining about the warnings, jailing, petition system, etc. Or at least, he is pretending he doesn't want to pay any more.

In the version I heard, that pledge drive raised $4K, $800 of which was stolen.

I'm not convinced that the MUD is in imminent danger of being shut down, as this is the first we've heard of it and there's been no talk of another organized fund drive. There are money-making ideas that just aren't being explored, like selling T2T shirts on Cafepress.com. (Someone's had T2T shirts for sale on Zazzle since 2004, but it's not the administration and they suck so nobody would buy them anyway.)
