Yes Jad, your absolutely right. In order to pingflood someone, you have to have their IP address....One way to get their IP address is to have that person send a messsage to you. -Just as you stated in your message.
Heres an odd coincidence. TWO NIGHTS AGO (ie 1 night before this happened) marthaon sent Korzan a string of babbling ICQ's, to which Korzan replied. This was the first time in 3-4 odd years that Marthaon had TALKED to Korzan...thats QUITE odd, dont you think? (Korzan told me this before he knew it had any relevance to anything, so bias here would not be a factor)
Combined with the fact that Ruiniel and Ulric were supposedly using Marthaon's help to pingflood Korzan, and the mistell sent from Bashegeroy to Korzan's friend...That makes some overwhelming evidence, that he was in fact pingflooded and NOT randomly lagged.
However, i am NOT pointing fingers at any mudders for involvement in this affair. I realize that I do not know any facts 'first hand' and all my information comes from a somewhat biased source.
Korzan was pingflooded, by who, I am not going to speculate.

Little lesson in networking.
You did not get 'hacked', Korzan.
You for some reason, became lagged.
There's a variety of reasons that this could have happened, but possibilities include pingflooding or packet routing trouble.
Firstly, as any self-respecting network admin knows, to ping someone, you will need their IP address. To my knowledge, the only people who can get your IP address from t2t, besides yourself, are gods (excluding Maia).
The other way for people to get your IP address is through programs such as ICQ (I can get people's IP addresses even if you've told your ICQ client to hide it). However, that would require you to send a message directly from you, to someone else, who would then pass that IP address on to someone who would use it for pingflooding.
The more likely explanation, is that one or more of the network connections that your packets traverse to get to T2T had some sort of temporary hinderance. If you are using Microsoft Windows, open up a Command Prompt window, and type:
tracert towers.angband.com
(or tracert 216.66.12.12)
And this will show you the hops between routers that your packets go through to get to T2T, and the time it takes them to get to each one. Higher the number, the longer it takes, and the more you're lagged.
You can have a 45Mbit connection, and you can STILL be lagged, if there are networking problems along the route to T2T.

Regardless of whether Ruiniel did this or not, which I really could give a crap about, I wouldn't mind wasting an alt in fine money destroying all of your chars. It would be amusing to me. Until then, you and Ulric, tell me if you're planning on going to Washington D.C. any time soon. I can arrange for the three of us to meet in a dark alley somewhere and I think thatmight make it a little easier to settle our differences.
Delgaur: You can have a coordinated ping flood from several computers. That means if Ruiniel can't do the pingflood to have an effect,he could get a few people to do it together at the same time.

But if i was alone, i get lag at a npc and i rarely have lag, and i would to die. Then it wouldnt matter to me. It would just be another death. Can't go around being paranoid. And if people started to say that they pingflooded me, shrug, so be it. I wouldn't get worked up over it. When people do that it's usually to intimidate and try to be superior.
One question: What if when you try to kill him again, he pingfloods you and your party?
Hehe! When you lag, well, it can be both 'you' or the 'mud' lagging. If it's you, its probably between you and your service provider. Maybe a router malfunctioning or something like that. If the mud is lagging there is probably something from the mud's provider that's lagging. Anyways. NOONE is lag free. Saying they are is just plain wrong. You can have a good connection, but say someone at your isp is doing maintenance work, upgrading or changing a router, then you might high ping, packetloss, and that's lag. So...Point is, saying 'I never get lag' is wrong..'I rarely get lag' sounds better :)
I am not the greatest with computers, and I thought this might be a good place to ask this. What exactly happens when I lag? Is it my ISP? The MUD itself? Both? And secondly, perhaps someone could explain a pingflood as well. Just curious, and it seems that K's bad luck on this log gave me a forum to ask these questions.
Funny, same thing happend to me when I was in mordor and Durms wanted to kill me and when i got back on withouth any ep after several minutes i found a very nice looking 5 man durm party at the gates... i lived but i wonder if that was just 'hack' or a lot of bad luck :P
Eh? Routerlogs usually never log regular pings, I seriously doubt his provider would be any different. Would be a waste of time. My tip to Korzan is that he installs an firewall of some kind, then he can log attempts to hack/packetflood his computer which he can use against the hacker(s) later on. A firewall is never wrong, it stops alot of things. Privacy is everything.

They normaly have a log of things like that.
I was hacked once, at home, the isp keeps log of alot of traffic, more than you may realise.
But looks to me like lag. Very similar to what ive seen and experianced. and no, you might not have lag, ever, but the mud does. hence,everyone is slow.
But hey, you never know. Ruiniel just might be a super hacker! not that pingfloods are that serious. and i dont think Rui has the facilitys to perfom a ping flood that would actualy have any effect on you.

Apparently, Ruiniel/Bashgeroy is the one who pingflooded me, in coordination with Ulric, who ran to kill me. I have no idea if Ulric did or not, cuz I can't tell, but I know it was the two of them that set it up.
Whats that Ruiniel? Surprised? Sorry, but Marthaon doesn't give a shit about you any more than me, he was quite willing to tell me all about how you were asking him to pingflood me..and how he gave you some pointers on how to do it to me.
