This is the best mud ever created. Why is it so small? Because Herkies (who has no idea what tolkien is all about, havnt even read the books) and players like them. Keep to abuse the system to turn it into any other online game designed to bla bla bla, like counter strike or something. And yes Pounder i am one of those old school people. And i like it that way! I remember dying defending moral NPcs in the game, and it was actually fun! Those were the days.
To sum up what Pounder said: get rid of herkies.
The straight reason for the decline has been the following two reasons, the mud has become much less fun. Nothing has been added to really make the game truly appealing to the old school people who were still active. You can add a shitload of new areas but it only goes so far. The system has been in dire need of a true update for years.

I probably have. Not the same deliberate scale which others have, but I can't honestly put my hand on my heart and claim that I've never used multiple characters to pursue the same goal or switched to a more convenient alt to help out a friend. Given how small our community is, and the extent to which we are often inclined to establish OOC friendships, I think it's be a disputable claim for most longterm players to make. I'm personally more of a rabble than an army, though.

(I could not help myself, sorry. And yes I agree with your comment. It's not like the concept of using alts to wage wars is something remotely new to the game.)
If people using alts to fight wars was a factor in causing the MUD's decline then this place would have perished in its infancy. Some of you are so slow to remember that there were other people who did this shit long before Herkimer, or GB or whatever, was even a blip on the radar.
And, it's always been amazing how stupid people become when someone gets them a bunch of good gear and they don't know that person at all and how much they try to ignore who they are. :P
I'm a little worried honestly, about winnetou. It seems like he recently has gotten into a bad habbit of drugs and it affects his posts on this site. I am almost never worried about what people do unless it affects them on this site and I have to read about it.

Yeah, that's not surprising. What is surprising is Ranhoth, which i thought was an RP oriented and peaceful guild, accepting this kind of scum. I feel like levelling and assassin to harass 'em as soon as I get the time.
Same old cycle these kids take advantage of: find a low-activity, more desperate than normal guild, con their way in promising to boost activity etc, start their old bullshit which they promised not to do, get the guild raped and/or removed, make themselves another alt...

Hihi, Ranhoth hobbitses! I'm kinda worried on Ranhoths behalf if Alocke keeps this up. (Not sperating his chars and helping GB in pk's.) Who knows what would happen to a guild like that if someone decides to go to war. It's a bit sad imo. Ranhoth is (used to be at least) such a peacefull RP oriented guild. Oh well. :)

well, you put in the log desc 'helping sou in mordor' and alocke and canian were obviously helping you. even a herkie can see that.
Not sure how they were defending the guild, by assisting in a mordor kill on a Meglivornth.

afaik neither Alocke nor Canian are members of GB (guild being attacked by SoU), they are alts of members. However they keep defending the guild like true members, thus acting like true herkies. It's things like that that make people stop playing...
