Vittorio, alright my bad then :) But the reason that the average was lower in this case is that the ping program in dos/cmd/whatever counts a lost packet as 0 instead of not counting it ;)

I think Algon would have mentioned 'mud client crashed' instead of 'connection problems', Nicu. Although it is a good point.

'Has started to disconnect' means that the TCP connection was deliberately closed. Only two ways that could happen would seem to be disconnecting by hand or that a proxy you connect through disconnected for some reason. But of course, I once had my mud client crash, which caused the same thing so you never know for sure :p.

The little honor you have left remains intact,

you may have even gained a little respect.

You place the blade on Algon's throat and swiftly slit

it. As blood spurts from his mouth you announce:

'This soul I sacrifice to the Dark Lord!'.

A moment later, he reaches up to you and stares in your eyes

as if asking if you would spare him. You grab his head, pulling

it down and making him gasp in agony. You then swing your blade,

    decapitating his body.

    You killed Algon.

    Algon has died.

Whether he quit or got disconnected, he owed death one of his lifes, which he willingly sacrificed.

vittorio is right.... 'Algon has started disconnecting.... (net-dead)' was initiated by him... in other words, Algon was trying to quit. has nothing to do with his connection. think about how many linkdead ppl we've seen in Arda.... you dont start seeing something like 'Theodrek has started disconnecting...' or whatever when we get lagged out

no cal :P ping is a program in and of itself that's been distributed with microsoft operating systems since they first included network support.

Yes I am aware that ping is a function that exists in other programs than cmd.exe. I happen to use win2k now, so, I'm sorry if I only typed cmd.exe. There are programs like visualroute to use and lots of other stuff.

If Jaren experienced alot of lag, followed by the chant, and Algon going linkdead, I might believe that story. Looks like he quit to me, though.

bridge connections are highly unstable when there is a great deal of load exerted on the small server you have. i am sure you are all aware that when there is a reboot chant nasty lag comes up which someitmes causes to disconnects especially if you are in mid of a huge alias like going down the stairs of moria. it was also fourth chant with no chance of logging back on.

Hey, Gothwin, if it was just 'connection trouble,' then how about having Algon accept his fate by drinking a vial of poison or something? You know, make up for 'what his ISP did.' *smirk*

You're letting your dislike for me blind you to the painfully obvious truth Gothwin, Algon is a quitter, think about it for 2 seconds and you'll see. He fills up drinking 3 doses of his flask and a VoV while I'm attacking him up there, all the while begging Nirrab to shield him. Once he finally realizes thats not going to happen, he makes a break, too little, too late so he panics when he sees he's ND and disconnects. It's an incredible coincidence that his connection drops when he's exhausted all his other options to survive, isn't it?

Algon informs me that he has 'connection problems' as soon as the chanting starts. Well, it just seems convienent that after I was in combat with him for a good 4 minutes, he drinks his VoV a full flask and begs on his hands and knees for Nirrab to save his life he then decides to run and quits when I _finally_ have him ND, most convienent 'connection problem' ever!

it bugged, there's some kind of bug with quitting where if you go net dead right when you die, you dont actually die. when you reconnect you run around as a ghost with a legendinfo, which is unusual, and when you revive you have lost nothing. i reported this to ariadne and she shrugged it off.
