Well, it was added because A: some people suggested it and B: it was kinda fun to code on a boring day ;). Certainly I agree that there are problems with it, and that the concept might not be desirable for all users of the site.

But then again of course.. those people can always ignore the ratings I think.

I don't like the rating system because it makes it look like the logs are a form of pleasing the masses. Which is true in a way, but not in that specific one. :P

Also it's a lot more meaningful to have an opponent say, 'Wow, that took balls', or 'nice kill', or 'it's too bad we couldn't fight on the same side sometime' than to just have your log given a 6 by seven or eight of your guildmates. When your guildmates are criticizing you, or your opponents applauding you, take that shit seriously cause you know it's ooc and they really mean it.

.. and with the 'put two asterisks in front of and after a line, and it will make the text bold' you ment that if you put two asterisks in front of and after text, it **will** turn the text bold => covering dirty words with asterisks will make the word a mess. :)

.. and by a terrific system i men that its better to get a serious rating of you log, or more specificly what you accomplished in the log, then some ppl writing 'yeah, cool, f**ing nice log yeah' in the comments. Or 'f***ng looser bad s**t log idiot f**k you.

How about sorting out the typical 1 and 6 voters, and let the rest of us, who votes seriously, give the logs the ratings we think they deserve, while still seeing the rating before we rate it ourselves as it is now. That way we will not all be punished because of some people not being able to handle it. It'll also give a better view of the //real// rating of a log. How good it is.

I suppose people that post nice logs would like to be acknowledged for it, thus, the rating system was a terrific idea if you ask me and not Feodinur.

And btw for the record i currently have no character, yet i talk here, however i will create him when i have time (in a few days). Right should be right.

Who even cares about the ratings? This game is for fun. This log page is for fun. The ratings are for fun. If you start getting too serious about any of it, it loses its fun. So what if a crappy log has a high rating? So what if someone rates your logs with a bunch of alts to make it a 2. There's still gonna be comments from 15 other people saying good job if it really is good. If you need a bunch of random people from around the world(especially Croatia) to validate your successes, then you've got bigger problems than letting people rate a log after they see how everyone else rated it.

I like what you just said Feodinur. We've heard alot of good and bad ideas on this one...(I'd rate this log a 1 too because no one wants to see this crap up here *chuckle*)

    Bad ideas:
*hide log ratings until user has placed his ratings vote.

*do not allow users to change their rating of the log.

*make it public how each user rats a log.
(personally, I think this while an excellent idea would add a bulkiness to the logpage but that's your guy's call.)

    Good ideas:
Allowing Rhoads to rate the logs, perhaps his Auntie can help him in this.

Or did I get that backwards?

Or just don't put so much stock in the ratings. View them as what they are. A way to give props to yourself/friends and insult enemies.

Or just take out the rating all together. So we don't have to be lame raters, or something.

I have 2 reasons for this crazy trend

    1. As soon as ratings system came out, everyone wanted to try it out. As a result, people posted some pretty fucking bad logs....which were deserving of 1's.

    2. Some people are not eager to rate every log(such as myself). I am only inspired to rate a log when it's absolutely horrible, or awesome. If there are a lot of people like me, it makes sense that there are more 1's and 6's than 3 and 4.

Also, this log doesn't deserve a 1. If the average on that log of Savita's has an average over 3(which I think it is right now), this deserves at least a 5.(even so, I'm not rating this...)

Raqtor's idea would work.... but i rate them badly so i would get blocked so lets not use his idea.

Well making the rating hidden until you rate it might help a little. But can you still se who is on the top 20 ? and still downrate thoose ?

Perhaps dismissing ratings and enabling users to just 'recomand' the log .. and then count how many recomanded the log for the score.

Or make ratings public so people who rate badly can be blocked.

Or or .. let Rhoads decide the ratings for logs .. uhm eh .. I need to sleep ;-)

And how can you say it isn't a special occasion? It is different to each person. I mean if it's a crappy log and someone see's Spartan or elmdor die that could be special enough to that person to rate it as a 1 or 6. just using spartan and elmdor for examples since equal amount of people probably hate each one of them :P

I'd agree to that, Nicu. Making it so you can't see the rating until you rate it. But, you should also make it so they don't rate it without thinking just so they can see what it's current rating is, and take advantage of it. So don't let them change their rating! :)

How about making the ratings from 1-10 then. 6 doesn't give a lot of space. One log could be a 10 and the other an 8.5 on a 10point scale. And the guy's my friend, so I want to give his log the credit he deserves. So I can't drop him to a 5 on a 6 point scale, so i have to give him a 6.

...which is what he just said you people do **far too much**. But ok, so maybe there are a lot of crappy logs out there but the truth is different.

From looking at the ratings, it's pretty clear that when person X is player killed, the log of it will have a few 1 ratings. By whom? Well by person X and his alts. Also, there are examples of 6's given to a log by alts of the poster. Hardly a very fair way of doing things.

I think there is //in general// too much personal stuff involved to make the ratings objective.

Another problem that Muaddib pointed out:
Say someone sees a log. He thinks it's ok, he would give it 3 or so. He looks at the rating, and sees a 4.5. Hmm he thinks. Then he rates it 1, to move it closer down to what HE would have given it.

A possible solution to all this //might// be to make ratings hidden until the player rates that log herself. This is how polls usually work. Another thing could be to make ratings public.
