CLearly, Anselmo figured on Gothwin not knowing how to escape from that area and figured with luck he could obtain MELS. However, when she enters the room it is clear his plan unfurls. This is emphasized by the *snap* gesture. Therefore, Smek, it is not a weird ending, and it is not being left open for a sequel. It ends in expected fashion. Case closed.
