Curiously, TTL is supposed to be in seconds, but in reality it limits the amount of hops a package can make. This is because even though TTL is in seconds, it must at least be decreased by one at each hop.. silly silly, and they also eliminated this in the new version of IP... If we're lucky, we won't be dead of old age by the time it takes over.

    TTL, Time To Live.

To avoid packets looping forever in a case like this, they will be dropped when their TTL expires. Else, everyone tracing og pinging towers right now, would generate traffic that would go on forever untill the recipient is reached. That would be quite an amount of traffic to be processed.

As for the loop, it was probably a bunch of cisco's gone in coma.

[38.112.1.42] and I think [38.112.1.41] are the two routers (hops) that are continuously pointing back to each other. Hence it loops until the request times out. (hence it looks like a normal time out possibly) But my guess is it means something like Timeout (T) Loop.

Yeah..i ping the server and it says Reply from 38.112.1.42: TTL expired in transit...what does this mean? Then it says timed out...

Oh yeah and to add, this has absoluetly NOTHING to do with the new server VS the old server as far as I can tell and most likely I am right in this case. The mud is still running and is still in same state minus all the players because they timed out just a little bit ago out of the mud.

Unfortunately the case isn't even a downed router. There is actually unfortunately a circular path in the routers for some reason as seen by doing a tracert on the towers. This is something that should never be tolerated by a isp or the people using it because it is a CLEAR misconfiguration somewhere. Sorta sucks eh?:( This is really not something the towers admin or anyone else should be putting up with anymore. Its something that can and should be fixxed.
