Nah, there was no way to survive the ottomans. At the point the Ottomans attacked Bulgaria and Byzantium, the two empires, were going through the early Rennaissance and after-feudal period (dunno how you call it in English). They were separated in many little striving kingdoms and the central authority was too weak. Those little kingdoms used to hire the turkish tribes against their neighbours thus ruining the economy and the infrastructure of the empires was destroyed. After like 50 years (like one or two generations) it was a plundered, ravaged, exhausted land which had to face the much better organized and centralized ottoman hordes - they conquered all kingdoms one by one. Still if all countries had seen the threat they would have survived but for example the norhtern Bulgarian kingdoms were helping the turks against the southern ones, thinking of them as of allies. It was the same with Byzantium, both empires fell in the same way - only the city of Constantinople managed to survive until the 15th century because of it's naval force and diplomacy.

knights irl were basically aggresive monks who's main purpose was to bring christianity to certain places who did not see true light by killing a good deal of the population so the part thats left knows better then not to believe in jesus and undergo silly church rituals. very cool indeed.

When they met the actual fighting forces they kinda got mass murdered:) They shoulda tried fighting off the mongols (who were the real bad asses of that age - something which the Bulgarians managed to do):)
Might I say 'capture' Constantinople isn't the word I would use. Betray is a better word. They massacred and raped those they were supposed to protect. The fourth crusade was nothing about chivalry. Perhaps Constantinople would have survived the Ottomans had it never happened.

Er, knights sucked IRL. They had nothing to do with warfare at all and had some vague civilisation concepts wich have nothing to do with fidelity at all.
When they tried to invade Bulgaria after they conquered Constantinople...er, we captured their king and the pope's representative died from exhaustion running from the battle. From then on Bulgaria lost only one battle with them - a battle which never took place because right before the two armies engaged each other, someone (another bulgarian commander) killed the present commander of the army, there was a revolt and...out army just skipped the battle. The Bulgarian army won all other conflicts with knights:)

To the point.. I think killing twice is really bad. Its maybe not wrong, or against the rules, but it is definitly low class. I find low class the best word to describe it with, and I thought for a long time.
