Simply put lag is where a message takes time to reach the server from you, or you from the server. We all have lag all the time, but it's mostly un-noticable or bearable. When the lag (otherwise known as latency) gets higher (high pings) then it becomes a problem.
If it does not reach it's destination it is not lag, but rather a lost packet, but lost packets can contribute to lag (there's 2 forms, slow switching servers en-route and lost packets needing to be resent).
Anyone needing more info feel free to talk to me, I maintain e-commerce sites for a living so server load/latency/contention are all in my daily drawn out existence.

First of all, not the client stops accepting input, but the output never reaches the server. Or at least reaches it when it's too late, that's what I mean if you didn't get my idea.
I'd like to address a more important question in Flare's comment, which is WHY he would say 'Go FO' rather than just 'FO', since 'FO' implies 'Going' anyway.
Is that bulgarian lag you're describing there Flare? I thought lag when when you get a high latency to the mud and what you type in your client doesn't reach the server immediately. I've never heard of a client that stopped accepting input when you had lag.

Lag is when your client stops accepting your commands because of your connection, or when it just disconnects you. And when it happens in a pk, of course you'll die. Dunno wtf your problem is
