    You are on the second level of the tower, even with the top of the
outer wall.  A staircase here runs from the level below all the way to
the top, above you.  Cast iron fixtures line the wall; they seem made to
hold weapons or tie up prisoners.  Otherwise, the chamber is bare.  In
fact, it is designed to serve as a tunnel, open on two sides to allow
troops passing along the outer wall to move through the tower quickly.
The dark stone of the chamber appears to be basalt, grainy and black in
appearance.  The floor is littered with debris, befitting the presence 
of unclean servants of Sauron.
    The only obvious exits are north, down and up.
